It’s Time to Make Some Time for Self-Care! Now more than ever, self-care has become an important topic as part of one’s overall health and wellness. How are you practicing self-care? Are you practicing self-care at all? Whether you’re a self-care pro or you need a little help getting started, you’ve come to the right place! Registered Dietitian and SlimFast Plan Consultant, Maryann Walsh, shares her tips for making self-care a priority.
- Set realistic goals based on self-care activities that you enjoy
- Set realistic time frames for self-care
- Ask for help
Just because your sister loves a spa day, doesn’t necessarily mean that equals self-care for you. You may enjoy an hour of uninterrupted reading time with a good book or sitting outside listening to the sounds of the outdoors, whatever helps “recharge your batteries” counts as self-care. Remember that little things such as taking 5 minutes for your skin care routine, going for a 10-minute walk at lunch or enjoying a cup of your favorite coffee or tea can count as self-care too. The possibilities are truly endless, so get creative!
If an hour of uninterrupted time is unrealistic don’t just throw the idea out altogether! Twenty minutes, 10 minutes, even 5 minutes of your favorite self-care activity is still way better than not taking any time for yourself at all.
There’s a common saying that if you don’t ask, the answer will always be no. If it feels impossible to put aside time for yourself due to family or work responsibilities, ask a family member or friend to help from time to time so you can indulge in some self-care. You may find you are able to give back tenfold to your family and to your professional responsibilities if you have time to rest and recharge!
With this self-care checklist you will be able to establish a routine of setting time for yourself on a daily or weekly basis!
