Whenever I am making school lunches, I ask them what they want to pack. I ensure that healthier options are available so that they can pick out orange slices, strawberries or apples before considering sugary snacks. This also helps me stay on track because I love fruit for my snacks as well. A favorite we all enjoy are grapes with crackers, which are easy to pack before heading out the door.

It’s important not to go grocery shopping for school lunches when you’re hungry. There are so many unhealthy temptations throughout the store including the checkout counters. A good rule of thumb is to eat before heading out to the grocery store. Eliminating temptations can make shopping for healthy options much easier. It also helps to keep snacks with you if you suddenly become hungry. You never know if you will be out of the house longer than expected.
