Which SlimFast Plan is Right for You?

Looking to start the SlimFast Plan but don’t really know where to begin? Well, you’ve come to the right place! The SlimFast Plan is a simple and easy weight management plan with different approaches to fit your needs. SlimFast Plan Consultant and Registered Dietitian, Maryann Walsh walks you through the different plans and tools offered by SlimFast to make your weight loss success as easy as 1-2-3!

You wouldn’t plan a road trip somewhere without a map and a plan for how you’re going to get there, would you? The same goes for your weight management goals! Having a plan in place can set you up for success on your journey, and the great thing is that SlimFast has a collection of free and accessible tools to help you on your way.

To help you create your unique roadmap, let’s first explore the SlimFast Plan as a whole, some possible approaches for following The Plan, and the various tools available to you from SlimFast to make this journey a success!


The SlimFast Plan, also sometimes referred to as the “SlimFast 1-2-3 Plan”, involves replacing two meals a day with a SlimFast meal replacement shake, smoothie, or bar. In addition to these, you will enjoy three, 100-calorie snacks throughout your day as well as one sensible meal of your choice which can take place at either breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The overall calorie recommendation per day on the SlimFast Plan is 1200-1300 calories for women and 1600-1700 calories per day for men. In addition to the 1-2-3 Plan described above, men add two, 200-calorie mini-meals to their day.

The following are possible paths you can take with the SlimFast Plan!

Favorite Foods Plan
With the SlimFast Favorite Foods Plan you simply follow the SlimFast 1-2-3 Plan and incorporate whichever foods and SlimFast products you’d like. This includes all SlimFast meal replacement bars, shakes, smoothies, and snacks. The main focus of this Plan is to stay within your calorie limits for the day with no focus on any particular macronutrient (aka “macro” breakdown - macros are carbs, protein, and fat). Many find this Plan to be a great fit for them if they want to continue to enjoy their favorite foods like pizza, pasta, and desserts. Yes! You can eat pizza, pasta, and ice cream and still lose weight following the SlimFast Favorite Foods Plan.

Keto Plan
The ketogenic diet is celebrated and utilized by many for a variety of reasons. One reason being that high-fat foods (often seen as indulgences like bacon, cheese, and steak) are encouraged. Also, by consuming a very low carb diet, one’s appetite often will be easier to manage, making it easier to stick to their plan for the day. With the SlimFast Keto Plan, you utilize SlimFast Keto meal replacement shakes, bars, and snacks along with your favorite Keto-friendly snacks and a sensible, Keto meal. Aside from staying within a specific calorie range, an additional focus of the SlimFast Keto Plan is to stay within specific, Keto macro amounts each day. If this sounds a bit confusing then don’t fret, the SlimFast Together App is an excellent tool. It provides simple-to-follow meal plans and guidance on how to count macros and how to follow a ketogenic diet.

Low-Carb Plan
Some may prefer to follow a more general low-carb approach versus following the more macro-focused approach of the Keto Plan. The SlimFast Low Carb Plan sits somewhere between the Favorite Foods Plan and the SlimFast Keto Plan. It follows the same guidelines of the SlimFast Plan as the other two plans listed above, but there is less focus on achieving ketogenic macros and more of a focus on minimizing excess carbohydrate intake. SlimFast Advanced Nutrition or Keto shakes and smoothies and all SlimFast bars and snacks can be utilized while following this approach. There is no specific carb amount recommended per day, however, the goal is to stay below 100 net carbs per day.


Figuring out Which Plan is Right for You
When figuring out which Plan to choose, try to think about which one would be the most realistic for you. Which one will you be able to be most consistent within your day-to-day life? Remember that while you want to try to choose the best fit, you are not tied to this Plan forever and if it isn’t working out for you after giving it a reasonable try for a few weeks or months, you can also move to a different Plan.

SlimFast Together Groups
Managing weight can be challenging for many. Having a strong support system, others to talk to, cheer on and exchange ideas with can be an incredible asset to one's overall journey. A study conducted at the University of Minnesota looked at a group of individuals who enrolled in a weight loss program. Two-thirds of the participants who enrolled with friends and had social support were able to sustain their weight loss six months after the weight loss program ended. For those who attended the program alone, only one-fourth achieved the same success1. As we can see with this example, having social support can be extremely effective for those seeking success on their weight management journey, this is why the SlimFast Together groups were created!
